About Me

I’m Christine.  I’m a wife and mother of two beautiful girls.  And I’m a breast cancer survivor.  In July 2007, I found a lump in my left breast during a self-exam.  I heard the devastating words just one week before my 40th birthday: "You have breast cancer."  I had a high-grade hormone negative HER2 positive breast cancer in Stage 2.  That's when a new chapter of my life began.
I immediately went into warrior mode.  There was no way anything was going to take me away from my two young daughters.  I underwent a double mastectomy & reconstruction surgery.  I received 6 months of chemotherapy, 33 radiation treatments and one year of Herceptin infusions.
Thanks to the love and support of my very supportive husband, my family and friends, and the state-of-the-art care from health care professionals, I am a thriving survivor!
I am healthier now than I have ever been.  I routinely exercise and eat a plant-based diet thereby giving my body the means to fight off cancer cells and setting a good example for my two beautiful, growing daughters.
I took part in multiple organized races this year by myself, with my husband, with friends, and a couple as a family.  While speaking with one of my chemo nurses during treatment, I vowed to build my strength up enough to complete a triathlon.  In August of 2010 I reached that goal!
I'm so proud of myself especially when I think of the extremes my body has undergone in these recent years.  Those memories of recovery from surgery and the beating my body took while sitting for hours and hours in a chemo chair and on a radiation table provided much inspiration for getting to triathlon day.
I am fortunate to be able to sweat it all out now.  I now look for new physical challenges that are fun and inspiring.  I recently completed my first Ragnar relay race and my second half-marathon.  I am hoping to complete my first marathon this October when I will reach my 5-year-cancer-free mark.
